LEGISLATIVE POLICY STATEMENT

The decision to support, amend or oppose any item of non-MIAQC sponsored legislation shall be made in accordance with the following guidelines:

The Board of Directors or its designee shall have the responsibility for initially screening and reviewing proposed legislation. Bills which pertain to disciplines or areas of expertise represented by the standing committees of the MIAQC shall be referred to the appropriate committee for consideration.

Committees shall have the responsibility of reviewing and commenting upon legislation that falls within their particular area of expertise. Committees shall report their recommendation, if any, to the Board of Directors. Recommendations to support, oppose, or amend a particular piece of legislation shall be accompanied by reasons there for. As general practice, the authority to take a stand or position on any piece of legislation, issue, cause or controversy on behalf of the MIAQC is vested solely in the duly elected Board of Directors. In unusual circumstances, and in the absence of an official board meeting, such authority rests with the President or his designėe.

In the absence of the above procedure, an individual member of the MIAQC may take a stand or position on any issue, cause or controversy. However, the individual taking the stand or position shall be identified in such a manner that it will always be clear that the stand or position does not represent the stand or position of the MIAQC or any other subdivision thereof.
